About Me

Hi, I'm Lisa Dyvig. I'm a professional violist living and teaching in Olympia, WA. I began my music studies at the age of 10 in the Issaquah, WA public schools, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Washington

I was the first prize winner of the Washington State Solo Contest in 1996, and I have been principal viola of the Olympia Symphony since 2011. I am also a regular member of Symphony Tacoma viola section.

In addition to playing and teaching, I also have an online shop, www.altoclefgifts.com, where I design and sell gift items with alto clefs on them just for viola players, because violists deserve cool musical things, too.

I began teaching private violin and viola lessons when I was in the 9th grade and have been teaching privately since then, for over 25 years. I became a registered Suzuki violin and viola teacher in 2016, but I also teach traditional lessons to students who began their studies in the local school strings programs, as well as to students who are transferring from violin to viola. Viola students of mine have been first place finishers at the district solo contests and have gone on to compete and earn superior ratings at the Washington State Solo Contest.

In addition to the teacher training I have received through the Suzuki program, I feel that keeping my own playing at a very high level contributes to my love of and success as a private teacher.
